Supply Management

01 October 2015

Expert opinion from Daniel-Mercier Gouin, professor in the Department of Agri-Food Economics and Consumer Sciences, on the subject.

Dozens of farmers from Quebec and Ontario gathered in front of the Parliament of Canada on September 29 in support of keeping the supply management system, which has included the nation’s production of milk, eggs and poultry since 1970. The producers, protected by the Canadian supply management system, fear for the stability of their production if a free trade agreement is signed between the 12 Pacific states. Daniel-Mercier Gouin, a professor in the Department of Agri-Food Economics and Consumer Sciences, shared his expert opinion on the subject, notably on Radio-Canada.
